Church history

Built in 1639 through the patronage of Gheorghe, brother of the Moldavian ruler Vasile Lupu, the church belonged to the former Hangu monastic settlement. Its Romanian name, „Pogorârea Sfântului Duh”, refers to the Descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.

The Palatul Cnejilor complex

The Cantacuzino family later transformed the former monastery into a fortified residence. After securing ownership in 1839, they adapted its buildings and strengthened the enclosure. The surviving palace ruins give the site its familiar name: Palatul Cnejilor.
